Across the fruit and vegetable ingredient industry, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented challenges. However, alongside the difficulties have come opportunities, and the chance for us to give back to local communities.

Due to the impact of the pandemic in our key growing region of Almonte, Spain, we have accumulated a large surplus of fresh zucchinis which will be unable to be processed in the usual way. As a responsible business with a commitment to sustainable business practices, we aim to reduce waste wherever we can – and, with our strong links to farmers and growers in the region, we have decided to donate the vegetables for free to local communities.

By working closely with our partner Innocent, regional organisations and municipalities, including the Huelva Red Cross, our high quality surplus zucchinis are now being distributed to food banks, public kitchens and less affluent neighbourhoods within the province. With southern Spain’s economy being significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re glad to play just a small part in helping alleviate some of the pressure these communities may feel currently.
